The Great Big Garden Project Part II

The garden is (almost) done! The ground is cleared, the beds are built and are 75% full of dirt, and most of the plants are planted!
We ran out of dirt on Sunday and I flat-out refused to return to Home Depot because it is my idea of hell, so we planted one and a half beds.
We have tomatoes, peppers, squash, beans, carrots, radishes, basil, etc. Hopefully we don't kill them...
Quinten was very excited to have everything in the ground.
The soil is very rocky, so hopefully our little corn babies will survive!

Banjo Gloves

I finished Derek's Mitts in time for his birthday in February, and have only just gotten around to getting a FA shot. Here is the talented Derek showing off his gloves in my front yard... he started playing and the music drew a mini-crowd. Thanks to him, I got to meet some new neighbors!

The Great Big Garden Project

My neighbor and I have decided to start a garden in the small space we share behind our houses. Starting a garden doesn't seem that hard, right? Well, it is when the space behind your house is home to 3 feet tall weeds!

It looks innocent enough from afar... but when you get in closer you realize those weeds are REALLY tall.
This is me standing in them... they came up to my knee in the shortest patches. It took us almost 4 hours of hoeing, shoveling, and pitchforking before we cleared a large enough space to begin our garden.
For those of you who know me personally, I know it's hard to believe that I would actually spend 4 hours of my life working on a garden, so here is an action shot to prove it.
Cindy enjoyed lounging around watching us, but got kind of miffed when we made her move.

Now that the space has been cleared (pictures to come), and the seeds are sprouting inside, we are going to work on building several raised beds. I'm not quite sure how this endeavor will turn out, but you will be the first to know. If you have any garden tips, I'd love them!
